Druids are the most versatile class in the game. I conceived of mine as a caster, and levelled balance wearing cloth. Recently I figured I was never going to get my pally up, and my guild needed more tanks. A few rep, crafted, and BoE items (and some enchants, dropping my dual tree spec, etc) later I was "defence capped" (uncrittable through talents) and tanking regular ToC-5 with few problems. I must be the only tank around with tailoring as a profession. Liam C, on October 24, 2009 |

I never played kitty, but recently picked up a feral tank spec. I love gaining my crit immunity from talents, even though if I were a raider it'd mean competing with the DPS for gear. I've heard many people complain that it's boring, but I like that I really only have five or six different abilities to keep track of. It took some of the fear out of my early tanking, knowing that I really only had a few buttons to push and some combination would keep the things hitting me and keep me alive. I dual specced from balance to resto, and it was a shock to someone used to healing on a shaman. I did finally get somewhat used to it, enough to heal easier heroics like HoL, but it never felt quite right to me. I'm probably just used to being kinda OP as a healer. I recently dropped my tree spec to become a feral tank, and I hadn't realised how geared I'd gotten. It hurt putting those nice items in my bank to gather dust, and to give up on something before I'd mastered it, even though it meant moving on to completely new experiences and challenges. Currently level 68, and my new dual spec from ret to prot has enabled me to duo most of the Outland group quests with a rogue friend, and I've even made it through a proper instance. It feels like I imagine tanking should (a bit different from my bear tank), but I have problems keeping up my "blue rage", probably because I don't yet have enough avoidance to proc BoS, and have had to go double light when there's no healer instead of judging wisdom. Even though I'm playing my pally and rogue more these days, my shammy will always be my main. I love the totem mechanic, and the strategy of using the right totems at the right time (situational ones, like tremor and nature resist). The class has a lot of unique abilities that set it apart. I was crazy and levelled resto, picked up elemental when dual specs came out, and now I have another, enhancement, on the backburner. I like healing, and I love buffing and supporting, and doing both as a shaman feels great. Liam C, on October 24, 2009 |
